So I bought her for myself for fifteen shekels of silver and a homer and a half of barley.I'm not quite certain if this was a dowry for the woman's hand, or a direct payment to her to retain her services. Given she was another prostitute, if I'm reading things correctly, I could easily see it being either. But either way, it's interesting to pay for her, when she was probably not very desirable as a wife.
However, one could argue that she got a bargain. I did a quick check, and that amount of silver and barley today would be worth about $120 altogether. For that price, a lot of men would probably not be so choosy.
