So all the people went to Gilgal, and there they made Saul king before the Lord in Gilgal. There they also offered sacrifices of peace offerings before the Lord; and there Saul and all the men of Israel rejoiced greatly. This is an interesting turnaround from what occurred in the previous chapter. Before, there were some who did not believe that Saul could be king. In fact, it appeared that Saul himself either did not believe or did not want to be king. But now, after a great victory and rallying of the entire people, there seems to be no doubt with anyone that he is the right man.
As the true start of his rule, he does set out to do things right. He goes to the tabernacle, and there is "crowned" before God. They also start anew as a people, offering sacrifices and peace offerings. God has given Saul the ability to lead the people, and they give Him thanks for that.
