The Lord GOD has sword by Himself, the LORD God of hosts has declared:Jacob had become prideful, and confident in their own defenses. They didn't think they needed God anymore. They'd built a great city, with strong supports and able to withstand siege.
"I loathe the arrogance of Jacob,
And detest his citadels;
Therefore I will deliver up the city and all it contains."
But they put their confidence in the wrong thing. God was the one who had let them build those citadels. He'd kept them safe so they were able to build an army to defend the land, which was a strategic center everyone wanted to control. Now they were going to see what happened when that protection was removed.
