The third angel sounded, and a great star fell from heaven, burning like a torch, and it fell on a third of the rivers and on the springs of waters.This one always sounded like a major meteor impact of some sort. An asteroid falling through the atmosphere would look like a star. If we think like a sci-fi novelist and imagine an asteroid made of toxic materials, its impact on the earth could pollute water sources.
The one thing I've never been sure of is where it could fall that would affect a third of the rivers and springs? My first thought would be somewhere like the Yangtze or Ganges in Asia, where the contamination could ruin the water of China or India. But would even that amount to a third of the waters, unless perhaps it got further through airborne dust thrown up to spread it to multiple basins?
