In pointing out these things to the brethren, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, constantly nourished on the words of the faith and of the sound doctrine which you have been following.To be a good teacher, you must first study. Very few people are able to speak about things which they know off the cuff, without preparation before every lesson; that domain lies to the circuit speakers who just give the same speech every time. When trying to help people change, you can't do that; you have to be learning more so you can teach more.
I remember the first few times I led my lifegroup; I studied constantly for the week before. I spent most every evening digging into the passage and related works, trying to dig out something new to bring before them. It was in that phase that I realized I'm not really much of a teacher, because I didn't enjoy the study beforehand. But even if I stop being a teacher, I still need to study.
