Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to cast some of you into prison, so that you will be tested, and you will have tribulation for ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you a crown of life.Some say that the letters to the churches are actually speaking to the seven phases the church will go through before the end times. If that's the case, and I don't particularly think it is, I wonder how they interpret this passage. The prophecy of being cast into prison for ten days before possible execution seems to be rather specific.
I notice that it doesn't say that they will be relieved after the ten days are over. Instead, it tells them to be faithful until death, suggesting at the end of the ten days of persecution they will be executed. This should serve as a reminder that even though God is able to save us from all things, it doesn't mean He always does; sometimes our deaths serve a higher purpose in His plan than our continued lives could.
