For I, the LORD, love justice,I have to admit, I have a bit of trouble putting the two halves of this verse together. First God says He loves justice and hates people withholding what He's due. But then, He says He will give them what's coming to them (presumably Israel/Jews), and make a covenant.
I hate robbery in the burnt offering;
And I will faithfully give them their recompense
And make an everlasting covenant with them.
It sounds in the first part like He's criticizing the people for not doing what's right. Then He says that he's going to give them what they deserve (which, from the first part, sounds bad). But then why make a covenant with them? It sounds like it would be a covenant of condemnation, but obviously isn't. So is this part about restoring them, after He's punished them?
