And He said to her, "What do you wish?" She said to him, "Command that in Your kingdom these two sons of mine may sit one on Your right and one on Your left."I'm reminded of when someone pleased Herod, he made a foolish promise. He told her that he would give her whatever she wanted, up to half his kingdom. He regretted that promise when she asked for John the Baptist's head.
Here, Jesus shows he is much smarter. He first asked what she wanted, without making promises to give it to her. He knew that despite his great power, there were things he couldn't promise. As it turns out, what she asked for was one of them. Don't think you can push God into making a deal with you. He works according to His own will, and isn't bound to us.
