But finally Daniel came in before me, whose name is Belteshazzar according to the name of my god, and in whom is a spirit of the holy gods; and I related the dream to him, saying,Some think that Nebuchadnezzar converted to Judaism after this experience. However, I think this verse proves that's not correct. While he may have recognized God as part of the pantheon, even as the highest member of it, he was still polytheistic.
The key here is how he talks about his god, and uses the plural. He's not saying there is only one God; he still thinks there are many. God may be very powerful, but He has competition for Nebuchadnezzar's loyalties.
