The hope of the righteous is gladness,The righteous person (today we could say Christian) doesn't need to worry. He doesn't need the things of this world. What's needed is what he's already promised, and that's Heaven. No matter what happens, he can approach it with gladness, because he knows where he will end up.
But the expectation of the wicked perishes.
On the other hand, whatever expectations a wicked person (non-believer) has, they're not going to happen. Oh, he might get what he wants here, in the short-term. But in the end, he can't take any of that with him, and will regret his choices for the rest of eternity.
