Now Solomon was building his own house thirteen years, and he finished all his house.The last verse of the previous chapter says that Solomon built the temple in 7 years, but here we see his own house took 13. Why the difference? It sure sounds like Solomon made his house a lot fancier than God's house.
Was this one of the early signs of Solomon's decline? Was his pride already getting in the way, trying to make himself bigger than God? Or perhaps it was a side effect of his worshiping at the high places, and he didn't think God deserved the best of everything?
